Giving old furniture a new lease of life

I guess what I am talking about here is the idea of ‘upcycling’ (although for no justifiable reason I find that word irritating).

I bought this beautiful writing bureau recently for £35.00 in a local charity shop:

It has lovely features inside:

The finish is rather dated and there are some marks on it:

So it will be sanded down and then painted, I will keep the handles it has and I think that a nice off-white/cream coloured paint would give it a very nice look.  This is a job that will have to wait until the better weather comes as it will have to be done outside.   For now it is sitting in the dining room and actually looks okay but will look better once it has been ‘upcycled’.  Meanwhile I like to walk past it and stroke it on a fairly regular basis!
