This has been a bit of a tough one – the trip down to Somerset and all the house hunting was not a huge amount of fun and much more anxiety inducing than I expected. It is looking hopeful that we are going to get the house we really liked – we should know for sure on Monday but the estate agents are very encouraging. The estate agent who showed us round the house we wanted (the final one we saw) was lovely – the only human being out of all the ones we met, and the other people from her office that we have dealt with on the phone over the course of the week have all been so helpful and kind. If only more were like them.
There has been a lot of decluttering this week and the house feels chaotic but it all needs to be done and life will be simpler for it. I have had five different removal firms round to give us quotations. There is the best part of £1000 between the cheapest and the most expensive. We are going with one of the ones in the middle somewhere – they have excellent feedback on Checkatrade and other review sites, offer a good comprehensive service and the chap who came round to survey for the quotation was helpful, polite, focused and thorough.
Today has been spent sorting through folders of old paperwork, seeing what can go and what needs to be kept. Some Wimbledon watching has also taken place – what a match between Heather Watson and Serena Williams! So close. My goodness Heather Watson played well.
Tomorrow there will be some carpet shampooing, some attic clearing and some general cleaning – all in the morning. Tomorrow afternoon we have promised small person that we will get the paddling pool out. If it is very hot I might get in it myself. There will probably be ice cream at some point.
I think I will also get up early and go for a swim at the local pool.
I hope you have all had a good day.
