Scrubbing and baking

Today I tackled some things that had been stored in the attic and which we now need to get rid of.  Mostly this consisted of baby ‘stuff’ – a couple boxes of baby toys, high chair, pram, car seats, walker etc etc.  Some of these things will be put on ebay, some on freecycle and some taken to the charity shop.    All the objects had been bagged or wrapped where possible but they have been in the attic a good few years so are all getting scrubbed, washed and generally freshened up.

The worst thing to clean was the big play pen – we no longer had the box so all the pieces had been kept together with brown parcel tape.  I wasn’t sure if the tape residue would come off but a bit of elbow grease did the trick.  Before and after:

So it was a sorting kind of day but as small person was having a friend back to play after school I did a quick bit of baking:

Banana and chocolate chip muffins

2 ripe bananas (mashed up)

80 grams soft brown sugar

2 eggs

4 tablespoons of rapeseed oil

130ml full fat milk

200g SR flour

Chocolate chips – as many as you like (I used a lot – there is no such thing as too many chocolate chips)

Mix everything together, put in to muffin cases and bake for 20 mins at 190:

They went down very well.

Until tomorrow….

  1. So good to have a tidy out & get rid of stuff isn’t it? We don’t have any baby stuff left as we had friends who were having kids when we no longer needed the cot or baby changing table, so gave it away. I’m glad it went when it did, or I might be a bit sentimental over it now. We still have her pram in the garage roof and I am refusing to get rid of it. No plans to use it or anything like that, I just don’t want to part with it. One of the few things I really can’t bear to get rid of. Funny, isn’t it?

    ooh, cakes looked good!

    1. Getting rid of stuff generally is good but getting rid of the baby stuff is hard – it was all kept as there was an assumption that there would be another one but it never happened – obviously just not meant to be – I cant deny that tears have been shed! I have kept a few precious things to put in a memory box for her (the baby grow she came home from hospital in and a few other things like that). We have also kept her cot, as it was the cot I had when a baby, and my brother, and my brother’s son also, so a bit of a family heirloom now.
