A collective…

I have missed a couple of days – there were only small things to ‘talk’ about, none of which on their own amounted to much, and we were away for one night with friends.

So, for today, a collective of bits and pieces from the last couple of days.

We had a great night with friends on Friday, stayed over and made our way home in a relaxed way on Saturday.

The flowers for this week:

The pink roses from last week are still going strong in the bedroom and bathroom but the daffs in the dining room needed replacing – this is where the white tulips will go, and the white roses from the sitting room (from two weeks ago) now needed replacing so this week I went for red roses.

Another book read:

This was actually a re-read as I did read it a few years ago but having enjoyed the recent book on the WI by this author I thought I would have a re-read of Bluestockings as it is well written and very informative as to how far, in a comparatively short space of time education for women has (thankfully) progressed.

And, today, we booked a summer holiday – woo hoo!    It was reading A London Child of the 1870s by Molly Hughes and her memories of childhood holidays in Cornwall that made us plump for Cornwall.   I had several childhood holidays there and Neil and I went once together but Flo has yet to visit that part of the country.

We have booked a cottage for two weeks on the edges of Bodmin moor.    We had flirted, briefly, with the idea of Italy but airports, flights etc etc, whereas now we can pack up the car, not worry about the weight of how many books we pack (!), put the bikes on the rack on the back of the car and be there in no time at all.  We can cycle on the Camel trail, spend days on the beach, lots of walking.   We didn’t go away last year because of moving so we are all quite excited that we have our holiday booked.

Menu plan for the week:

Sunday:  Roast chicken, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and gravy

Monday:  Tuna fishcakes

Tuesday:  Moussaka

Wednesday:  Corned beef and potato pie

Thursday:  Pasta

Friday:  Homemade chips

I hope you have all had a good weekend.

Until tomorrow…

  1. Sounds like you’ve had a lovely weekend. Your tulips look much better than mind do this week. I know exactly what you mean about going abroad and all the faffing around getting there. I’d have been quite happy to stay in the UK but Mark fancied some guaranteed sun this year. One of Amy’s favourite holidays was a cottage in Cornwall. She still talks about it now. xx
